Climate Change AI - Tackling Climate Change with Machine Learning
Machine learning can play an impactful role in many strategies for reducing and responding to climate change. However, it is not a silver bullet, and should supplement (rather than divert attention from) other impactful actions to address climate change.
Lorenz Keyßer is a master student of Environmental Systems and Policy at ETH. His research focuses on climate mitigation scenarios, post- and degrowth approaches to socio-ecological problems as well as strategies to address them, such as the green new deal. In this talk, he will present his paper, 1.5° C Degrowth Scenarios Suggests the Need for New Mitigation Pathways, co-authored with Manfred Lenzen, which attempts to subvert the positive meanings associated with traditional concepts of growth. The talk will be followed by a discussion round.
ICT and sustainability – the good, the evil, and the complex
In his talk, Dr. Vlad Coroama will give a broad intro to the field of IT & sustainability, addressing in particular the direct energy/carbon footprint of computing, its indirect effects, as well as existing trade-offs and conflicting goals between the environmental and societal dimension.

Visualising Environmental Impact
The environmental impact of our lifestyle is often difficult to understand in terms of numbers only. In this poster exhibition, we visualise these numbers in an intuitive way.
